Cheese Straws

From the kitchen of Rie Whitfield

Ingredients

  • 1 lb New York or Wisconsin sharp cheddar cheese (grate while hard)
  • 1/2 lb margarine, at room temperature
  • 3 cups unsifted flour
  • 1 rounded tsp salt
  • 1 rounded tsp cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Cream cheese and margarine well at room temperature.
  2. Sift dry ingredients together and add slowly to the cheese mixture.
  3. After all the flour has been added, shape into straws or balls.
  4. Bake until slightly brown at 360-400° (depending on the stove); watch closely - usually around 10 minutes.
