German Shortcake

From the kitchen of Aunt Hettie

Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup butter
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 Tbsp cold water
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 Tbsp or more sugar

Instructions

  1. Cream sugar and butter.
  2. Add egg yolk, flour, and water.
  3. Press dough into the bottom of a 9-inch pan.
  4. Cook to golden brown in a moderate 350° oven, about 30 to 35 minutes.
  5. Serve with sweetened strawberries and whipped cream.
