Hot Vidalia Onion Dip

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 3 large Vidalia onions, coarsely chopped
  • 8 oz shredded Swiss cheese
  • 1 cup mayonnaise (Hellman's is best)
  • 1 small can water chestnuts
  • 1/4 cup dry white wine
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1/2 tsp hot sauce
  • parmesan cheese (shredded), if desired

Instructions

  1. Melt butter in skillet, add onions, and saute 10 minutes or until tender (be sure they are tender).
  2. Stir together Swiss cheese and the next 5 ingredients; stir in onions, blending well.
  3. Pour into a lightly greased 2-qt baking dish.
  4. Bake at 375° for 25 minutes or until done.
  5. Let stand 10 minutes.
  6. Serve with tortilla chips or crackers.
Can be refrigerated and warmed up again. Makes enough for 10 people; recipe can be halved.
