Tips/Technique
Seasoning a Cast-Iron Skillet
From the kitchen of
(newspaper clipping, quoting "Hill")
Ingredients
Solid Crisco shortening
Paper towel
Instructions
Wash and dry a new cast-iron skillet to remove its wax coating.
Rub solid Crisco into the inside of the skillet with your fingers so it works into the pores of the iron.
Place in a 300° oven for about 10 minutes.
Remove and wipe out the excess shortening with a paper towel, then repeat as needed until the pan is seasoned.
Same newspaper clipping as the Fried Chicken entry above; final steps reconstructed slightly since the clipping text runs off the edge of the card.
