Instructions
- Clean and separate large cabbage leaves.
- Let stand in scalding water until slightly wilted, about 5 minutes.
- Mix the meats with finely chopped onion, rice, egg, salt, and pepper.
- Make small balls and roll in each cabbage leaf.
- Hold together with picks.
- Place in a deep kettle.
- Chop more cabbage, onion, and celery and place on the cabbage rolls.
- Then add the sauerkraut and tomatoes.
- Add more salt and pepper and top with chicken fat.
- Start on high, then reduce to cook for 2 hours.
- Add water if it gets dry.
Card notes it's good with mashed potatoes and a salad of pickled beets, hard-boiled eggs, and onion rings.
